Always Remember

It was a beautiful Tuesday morning. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and the air was crisp. As I was getting breakfast for the Boy (he was the Monkey back then) my husband yelled from across the house.

In a matter of moments, life as I knew it was forever altered.

I will NEVER forget. I won't forget what we're fighting for and against.

Remember the innocent victims. Remember the brave first responders who lost their lives. Remember those who have sacrificed all combating evil across the globe. And remember those who continue to do so.

Please. Always Remember.

My Thoughts on the Ground Zero Mosque

WARNING: Disturbing video
Okay - I'm probably repeating what most have already said, but deal with it. I have to get it out of my system.

It is a HORRIBLE idea to build a mosque at Ground Zero. Anyone with half a brain can figure that out, and they can figure out why. Do they have the right to build it? Unequivocally. But having the right to do something does NOT make it the right thing to do.

Those on the left contend that those of us who oppose the building of this mosque are intolerant, even racist. Keep in mind these are the same "tolerant" people who are trying to take Christianity out of every aspect of our lives.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with "tolerance" or "bigotry", but has EVERYTHING to do with respect. Respect for the victims of 9/11, respect for their families, respect for the hallowed ground upon which thousands died for absolutely no reason other than radical beliefs of those who want us dead simply because we ARE tolerant.

Why do they want to build the mosque at Ground Zero? Why not somewhere else? Because it's salt in the wound. It's a figurative flipping of the bird. It's a "gotcha." You see, my friends, this country is so concerned about not being seen as racist or bigoted, we bend over backwards to appease others regardless of whether or not we the people are offended.

I saw this video on facebook over the weekend, and I just can't shake it.

They estimate that it took about 10 seconds for those who jumped to hit ground. Imagine that. Seriously - stop and count off 10 seconds. And imagine what would be going through your head as you're flying through the air to certain death while not even knowing what happened.

A mosque a heartbeat away from where this happened? I don't fucking think so.

UPDATE ON FT. HOOD SHOOTER

The Ft. Hood shooter, and so far it looks like there is only one, is alive and in stable condition. However, the death toll IS 12.

My Heart Hurts

Disclaimer: I came home from work and went straight to the computer, so I am unaware of any updates to this story at this time.

When I first heard of the shooting, all I heard was "army base" and "south". My heart dropped to my feet because, you see, the Elder is at Ft. Benning. (more on him in a separate post) So it is with a small modicum of shame that I admit I felt some relief when I heard Ft. Hood. There - I admit it. After that brief rollercoaster, I was fully devastated.

11 dead. 31 wounded. What's that you say? 12 dead? Not on this blog, my friends. You see, I am of the firm belief that any POS who goes on a shooting rampage is not in any way worthy of being counted in a death toll that he himself created. The death toll is for the VICTIMS, in my humble opinion. I felt that way about Columbine, Virginia Tech, and any other horrific tragedy in which the one(s) responsible are counted in the death toll. And that's all I will say about the shooter(s) at this time because a) this is about the victims, and b) as tempting as it is, and as much as I'm using every ounce of self-control I have, I will NOT post a rant based on pure speculation. Once more facts are in, the rant will come.

In any case, I want to offer my heartfelt prayers to the fallen, the wounded, the family and friends of all involved, and the community as a whole. My God's peace offer you some measure of comfort in the midst of this tragedy.
