Becker Sentencing - clarification

Okay - I've been getting grief for stating that former mayor Gary Becker was sentenced to 6 years in prison. But Chris, some are saying, he was only sentenced to 3 years. Well no, in point of fact he wasn't. Becker was sentenced on one count of attempted second degree sexual assault of a child to three years in prison and five years of extended supervision. He was sentenced on a second count, of child enticement, to a three year prison term and five years extended supervision. 3 + 3 = 6. Now, the fact that he will be serving both sentences concurrently does not take away from the fact that he was sentenced to 6 years. As I told a dear friend, had the judge said consecutively rather than concurrently, Bam!!! 6 years for Mayor McPervert. So in all actuality, he was sentenced to 6 years, but will serve 3 years. Most likely, much less than that, but you get my point.

Perhaps it's because I work in the legal field that I am so...well...anal about picky details like that, but if I wasn't, I'd be out of a job!! The smallest details can mean the difference between winning and losing.

So there. :)

  1. Who are the perverts in your neighborhood?

Since recidivism of sex offenders is likely, long sentences are justifiable. They forfeit leniency when they "cross that line" by messing with those below the age of consent.

  5. In Wisconsin, 3 years is 3 years. There is no parole anymore and has not been since the mid 90s.
